Solar Hot Water
Solar Hot Water, often called solar thermal or solar water, can be used to heat domestic water for homes and businesses or provide space heat for buildings and greenhouses. Alternative Power Enterprises designs systems for solar domestic hot water (SDHW), space heating, dairies, swimming pools, spas, or any commercial process that requires heated water.
Typically Solar Thermal applies to applications where water temperatures do not exceed 180 degrees F. It is a good idea to keep in mind that Solar Thermal systems will offer the greatest value at temperatures 130 degrees and lower, especially for space heating projects. This is why solar works great with in-floor heat but not with other high temperature hydronic systems like staple-up or baseboard heat.
Solar Domestic Hot Water
Solar Domestic Hot Water (SDHW) can be a great and inexpensive way to use solar energy to reduce monthly utility expenses and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. A SDHW system can be installed on most houses, and chances are it could work for you.
If you have a SDHW system installed you should expect the system to provide 50-90% of your hot water annually. For parts of the summer you may get all of your hot water from the sun. Just think about how great a carbon-free shower that costs you nothing will feel.
